For nearly half a century, acclaimed British photographer Peter Sanders has travelled the earth to capture images of the saints of Islam. In the traditional world, these people of purity, knowledge and illumination have been the role models, benchmarks and exemplars of what it is to be human. The goal of this spiritual tradition is nothing less than direct experience or ma’arifa (gnosis) of God’s presence. This lengthy search has finally culminated in the publication entitled Meetings with Mountains, Encounters with the Saints and Sages of the Islamic World.
Meetings With Mountains is a beautifully printed hardback book featuring 272 photographs and calligraphic art portraying Peter Sanders' journey of discovery. Each encounter is accompanied by Sanders' detailed description of the meeting and what transpired during the photographic session. The images and the text weave an epic story of a life-long quest to document the saints and sages of Islam.
Join us for this book launch, including a visual presentation and conversation with Peter Sanders. This event is being organised by Remembering Srebrenica in partnership with The City Circle and Inspiral Books.
