Indonesia has the world’s largest Muslim population. With 17,000 islands and more than 500 languages, it is arguably the most diverse country in the Muslim world. Indonesia has also been described as “the largest invisible thing on the planet”.

His Excellency Moazzam Malik has been the British Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor Leste, and the ASEAN since 2014. During this special event, Moazzam will speak about his journey to and work in Indonesia, his reflections on the plurality of Islam in Indonesia, the challenges still faced by minorities, and the lessons that can be derived by the UK Muslim community.

This is Moazzam’s first diplomatic posting following a career in international development, the private sector, and assignments as an economist. He was previously Principal Private Secretary to Valerie Amos and then Hilary Benn; and held a range of senior positions at the UK Department for International Development before moving to Jakarta.
