The City Circle is an open circle for open minds

City Circle announces new Co-Chairs

In November, we bid farewell to Rameez Kaleem who will be stepping down as Chair and Trustee of the City Circle.

Rameez joined the City Circle Saturday School as a teacher in 2005 and subsequently managed the school as Head Teacher from 2011 to 2013. He was appointed as Chair of the City Circle in 2014 and has worked tirelessly to strengthen and promote the charity's projects. In 2013, he set up the successful homelessness project in partnership with Children of Adam, and in 2014 he established the partnership with St James' Winter Shelter. In addition, he has led City Circle's programme of regular talks, providing a forum for people to discuss and inform others about topics which often are not discussed elsewhere.

Rameez said "I have really enjoyed my time leading the City Circle and watching our projects develop. However, I left my job last year to set up my own consulting business, and I also volunteer with another charity, so I have decided that this is the right time for me to step down and dedicate my time elsewhere. It’s been a privilege getting to know and be inspired by the amazing team of volunteers at the City Circle who give up their time every week to help make a difference in their communities."

The City Circle Trustees would like to thank Rameez for his long-standing and valuable contribution and wish him well in his future endeavours.

Ben Walker and Sameera Hanif will be taking over as Co-Chairs of the City Circle from November 2016. Ben and Sameera joined the City Circle Management Team in 2015 having helped establish a social media strategy. They have both been instrumental in raising City Circle’s profile, representing the charity at public functions and supporting the Friday event programme. They were both appointed as Trustees earlier this year.

Ben’s professional background is in marketing where he has led teams, managed programmes of events, and developed communications strategies. Sameera is a PR and communications consultant with experience delivering international media campaigns. Both have used their skills to shape and organise our programme of talks and public events, creating space for understanding, and highlighting issues of interest to local communities

At the same time, Zeshan Ghory, long-time member of the Management Team and a previous Head Teacher at our Saturday School has joined the Board of Trustees, with oversight for our education projects.

We hope you will join us in wishing Ben, Sameera and Zeeshan all the best in their new roles.
